Duke Nukem Forever confirmed for 2011

2K Games has, at the Penny Arcade Expo, confirmed that Duke Nukem Forever will see a 2011 release.

First publicly announced in 1997 (and in development even before then), Duke Nukem Forever has long been a subject of controversy and mockery for computer gamers, who have seen it be constantly delayed and endure many design overhauls and engine changes over the year. After the collapse of 3D Realms, the future looked especially bleak - even despite assurances otherwise.

Now though, publisher 2K Games has confirmed

AMD Dropping the ATI Brand Name

The Tech Report has confirmation that rumors that AMD was planning on dropping the ATI brand from their products is indeed true. As a result you can expect that the next generation of Radeon cards will be AMD branded, without any mention of ATI at all.
The long and short of it is that, according to AMD's own survey results, consumers savvy enough to know something about discrete graphics cards tend to know the Radeon name, they tend to like AMD, and they don't mind seeing the AMD name on graphics cards once they realize AMD merged with ATI.
Is this Microsoft's new Internet Explorer 9 interface?

Microsoft has delivered four developer previews of Internet Explorer (IE) 9 so far, but has yet to show off the new interface for its next-generation browser. That is expected to happen on September 15, during Microsoft’s beta launch event in San Francisco.

But maybe users won’t have to wait until then to get a glimpse of what’s coming. Microsoft Russia’s press site, on August 25, posted information and a photo that seem to be connected to the coming IE 9 beta. (The site has since pulled their post, but I grabbed the information and screen shot in the nick of time.)
COD: Black Ops to allow modding

Call of Duty developer Treyarch has announced that the next game in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops, will allow modding on the PC version.

Mod tools will not be available on the disc however, with Treyarch promising to release the tools at some undefinied point after launch. The developer console will be available from the start, however.

The announcement came on the official forums, where a Treyarch developer said that creating the tools was not a trivial amount of work and would therefore have to wait until after the game had shipped.

"We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game,"

EA announces Mass Effect 2 for Playstation 3

During their GamesCom conference earlier today, EA announced that Mass Effect 2 is coming to the Playstation 3.

Earlier this year, Mass Effect 2, the stellar RPG/Shooter from the award winning developer Bioware, was released for both the Xbox 360 and PC. Garnishing more than 70+ perfect review scores, the game was truly missed on the PS3. At the time of the games release there was no information released regarding a PS3 version of the game, leading people to believe that the game series would never see the light of day on a Sony console.

Many assumed EA didn't want to release the second instalment of the franchise with out releasing the first, as the first Mass Effect title can’t be released on the PS3 without consent

Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer teaser trailer revealed

The very first multiplayer trailer for the massive FPS title from Activision has been released. The multiplayer trailer may only be a teaser, but it reveals a huge amount of info for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

New information for the multiplayer component consisted of new gadgets in the form of a camera that you can place on the ground (seen in the first part of the video). As well as new weapons in the form of the crossbow, that seemingly has a timed bomb in the arrow to kill your opponent (seen at 26 seconds) and the use of dual wielding knives which can be used for short range fire and a double backstab ability (31 seconds).
Crysis 2 postponed to 2011
Crysis 2 was originally expected to launch by the end of 2010, but it’s now officially postponed to 2011. EA has officially announced that the sequel of the famous first-person shooter by Crytek will be launched during the fourth quarter of EA’s fiscal year (From January to March 2011).
According to EA, the change was to give Crysis 2 a better marketing window, and give Crytek more time to polish the game.
In any case, we remind you all that the game will be launched for PC, PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is Activision's Largest Launch Investment

Infinity Ward has largely moved on, but Activision still has high expectations for the Call of Duty brand. In today's investment call, CEO Bobby Kotick said that the title represents "the biggest investment that we've ever made in the launch of a title." (via Gamasutra)

Kotick cited Call of Duty's "incredibly broad appeal" as the main reason to throw the full weight of their resources behind the title. The Treyarch-developed shooter will also be competing directly against EA's Medal of Honor revival, which is also due this fall.
