Battlefield 1943 Coming to Consoles Next Week
Jul 02, 2009 - 11:43 PM - by KevSmeg
EA and DICE have announced that Battlefield 1943 will be released July 8 on Xbox Live Arcade then July 9 on the PlayStation Network, priced at $15 (1200 Microsoft Points). A PC release is due in September 2009.
Battlefield 1943 is a critically-acclaimed First-Person Shooter (FPS) multiplayer game that puts players in the middle of a dogfight on land, sea or in the skies. The game introduces two thrilling new modes that can be played across four classic Battlefield tropical WWII maps: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea. These maps are inspired by the award winning Battlefield 1942 game, but have been redesigned and reengineered using the DICE destructible Frostbite™ engine which takes down walls, blockades and cover spots, leaving players with almost nowhere to hide. The game delivers endless hours of social online gameplay – an extraordinary

Blizzard Axes LAN Play for StarCraft 2
Jun 30, 2009 - 1:01 PM - by KevSmeg
Blizzard senior VP Rob Pardo has confirmed that the company's upcoming RTS sequel StarCraft II will not feature LAN multiplayer support. The only multiplayer available will be on Battle.net.
IncGamers also got a clarification from Blizzard, shortly after the interview, saying the choice of excluding a LAN feature "is because of the planned technology to be incorporated into Battle.net," a topic they will reveal more about at a later date.

The original StarCraft gained popularity largely because of the easy LAN mode, used on massive LANs like Dreamhack or small personal networks between friends, so this is a surprising move by Blizzard.

I for one have canceled my copy because of this.

Battlefield Heroes Beta is Open to All
Jun 25, 2009 - 11:32 PM - by KevSmeg
It looks like Battlefield Heroes, the online only, free-to-play, web browser based Battlefield title, has officially gone live, without as much as a mention from Electronic Arts. Heroes lets you create a custom player, choose a side, and partake in the shooting of enemies and capturing of points. The only thing gamers pay for, are the optional in-game items and bonuses that players can utilize. $5 (USD) purchases 700 "Battlefunds" that can be put towards new clothing options for your character or special items that allow you to rack up Valor Points faster. Valor Points can be thought of as experience that is used to level up your character.
